The Best Wedding Venues in Door County

sister bay Wisconsin

Door County is a great spot for weddings of all varieties, no matter if you’re planning a traditional wedding, an elopement, a micro wedding, or destination wedding. I’ve been shooting weddings in Door County, WI for over 11 years… So I’ve seen most, if not all, of what the County has to offer!

This is by no means a comprehensive list… These are just some of my personal favorites and reasons as to why…

Garden Gables

Garden Gables is located just outside of Sister Bay, WI. I probably shoot more weddings here in a season than anywhere else in the county and it always tops my list. They’re self described as Door County’s premier DIY wedding venue. (Although, in my opinion, you don’t need to do much to make this place absolutely perfect!) It’s an incredibly romantic venue with a beautiful garden arbor, meticulously well cared for gardens and green spaces, outdoor stone bar, concrete band stage, indoor barn area, complete with twinkle lights… oh and horses! It has a look that works with many different styles, boho, elegant, whimsical, rustic, natural…
Not only that but the owner, Kayla, is always a dream to work with!

  • Open June through September and can accommodate up to 200 guests outdoors or 100 guests indoors.

  • There is a cottage space with restrooms available for wedding preparations and two multi-stall indoor restrooms for guests. (Yay, no porta pottys!)

  • Only four miles from downtown Sister Bay.

  • STUNNING gardens all season long…

Gordon Lodge

Gordon Lodge is located a few miles outside of the town of Baileys Harbor, WI. The lodge overlooks North Bay and has docks, shoreline, woods and trails for huge variety of photo opportunities. They have onsite catering and lodging for somewhat of an all inclusive package, unlike many other wedding venues in the area.

  • Gordon Lodge seats 250 without encroaching on dance floor, and the Boathouse is perfect for smaller weddings which can seat 50-60 based on wether you choose to do plated dinner or banquet style.

  • Amenities include onsite catering and lodging, private beach, and equipment rentals (bicycles, kayaks, and paddle boards for exploring).

  • Ceremonies can be held indoors or outdoors on the green space overlooking Lake Michigan.

Woodwalk Gallery

Located south of the town of Egg Harbor, WI is Woodwalk Gallery, a classic WI dairy barn turned fine art gallery. The wedding venue has wooded trails, and multiple outdoor wedding locations, my favorite being a vine covered garden lattice in the middle of a field. There is also a spiral sunflower maze in September!

  • Woodwork can accommodate outdoor groups up to 250 with the use of a tent.

  • There are many outdoor options for ceremony including a garden lattice and vintage silo, you can also hold your wedding inside the historic barn. A tent can be set up adjacent to the barn or out in the field.

  • There is a getting ready space onside for wedding preparations in the former art studio and indoor bathrooms are available for guests.

  • Its a very short drive to the beach for sunset photos!

Bjorklunden

Just south of Baileys Harbor, WI you’ll find the magical little Boyton chapel nestled in the woods, just off the waters of Lake Michigan. This is a 440 acre estate owned by Lawrence University. Bjorklunden is actually the summer campus of Lawrence University. They do rent multiple spaces for private events and weddings.
It is also the home of Door Shakespeare.

  • Their most popular option for weddings is Boynton Chapel, which is a wooden Norwegian style stave church built in 1939. It can accommodate up to 36 guests inside the chapel, but some use the chapel as more of a “backdrop” for a larger outdoor seating area.

  • There are multiple onsite lodging options available (including a studio apartment space) as well as indoor spaces for food prep and events.

  • There is a large green space, beach access and wooded trails.

The Wickman House

Located in Ellison Bay, WI, the Wickman House is well know as a foodie’s delight. It’s a popular, farm to table restaurant housed in a historic three-story structure on four and a half acres of prairie land. Now in its 6th season, the Wickman was recently honored as one of the few "Four-Star Restaurants in Wisconsin's Small Towns" by travelwisconsin.com. This venue offers the perfect backdrop for an elegant wedding for a any couple that loves good food and drink.

  • Onsite catering by the Wickman House chefs and craft cocktails is definitely the highlight of this venue. Their most popular option for weddings is a tent on their expansive lawn as indoor seating is limited.

  • Getting ready rooms are available upstairs. They formerly served as rooms in a bed and breakfast.

  • There is a large green space, vegetable gardens, outdoor tables on their patio and a gazebo fully tooled and ready to serve as the perfect outdoor bar.

The Kress Pavilion

Overlooking Lake Michigan right in the middle of Egg Harbor, WI, The Kress Pavilion is a beautiful venue that offers two floors to host your wedding. The Kress is home to the Egg Harbor library. One of the newest wedding venues in the County, this modern space has floor to ceiling windows, wood floors and exposed beams, offering natural light and a bright room that highlights Door County’s beauty no matter the weather. One side of the room features a double-sided gas fireplace, while the other features a video wall for slideshows and videos.

  • This venue has a wraparound porch with incredible water and sunset views and complimenting patio furniture.

  • The south end of the porch features an indoor/outdoor fireplace and an area for a ceremony of up to 110, cocktail area or bar location. The bayside of the porch features bluff and bay views and can accommodate a ceremony of up to 132.

  • When entire building is rented it can accommodate up to 200 comfortably when there is access to the outdoor areas.

  • Without access to outside areas the building can accommodate 140 with downstairs. Weddings can host cocktail hour in the downstairs, transition upstairs for a seated dinner and then make dessert available downstairs as the staff transforms the upstairs for dancing.
